Design & Technology
As designers at Twyning School, all children get opportunities to develop knowledge and skills by planning, making and evaluating a range of high quality products, using all equipment safely and with growing independence as they move through the school.
Our children receive a Design and Technology curriculum which allows them to exercise their creativity and combine their designing and making skills with knowledge and understanding. We aim to provide meaningful and memorable experiences which develop learning and result in the acquisition of knowledge and skills: we encourage the children to create products that solve real and relevant problems within a variety of contexts or have a clear purpose. The children are given many opportunities to reflect on and evaluate past and present technology as well as their own work.
Skills are taught progressively to ensure that all children are able to learn and practice in order to develop as they move through the school. Opportunities are given for children to work both independently and in groups.
Evaluation is an integral part of the design process and allows children to adapt and improve their product, this is a key skill which they need throughout their life.
Our curriculum provides opportunity for critical thinking, learning about designers from a range of cultures, countries and backgrounds and evaluation of each step of the design process.
As a school we have chosen to follow the KAPOW Primary scheme.
